Designing Event-Driven Cloud Systems on AWS
How combining EventBridge, Lambda, and DynamoDB enables loosely coupled cloud services that scale seamlessly without operational overhead.

Architecting resilient distributed applications requires moving away from brittle, tightly coupled request-response chains. Event-driven architectures replace synchronous HTTP polling with asynchronous pub/sub boundaries.
Core Tenets of Event-Driven Platforms
- Decoupled Failure Domains: Downstream latency or momentary API failures do not cascade back into client-facing frontends.
- Declarative Bus Rules: AWS EventBridge patterns route events directly to specific Lambda handlers based on strict metadata schemas.
- Idempotency by Design: Using DynamoDB condition expressions or transaction writes guarantees that duplicated event deliveries cause no state corruption.
OBSERVABILITY REQUIREMENT
Always inject correlation IDs at the ingestion boundary and propagate them across event payloads to ensure end-to-end tracing in CloudWatch.
